Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 7, 2026
Vela ("the Application") is designed to help you track your mood and emotional wellbeing. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
1. No Data Collected
Vela does not collect, transmit, store, or share any of your personal data. All mood entries, journal entries, tags, notes, and insights generated by the app are stored exclusively on your device using SQLite.
2. Data Storage
- All data is stored locally on your device.
- No data is ever uploaded to a server, cloud service, or third-party provider.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or tracking libraries are included in the application.
- No third-party ad SDKs are integrated into the app.
3. Biometric Authentication
If you enable Face ID or Touch ID in the app settings, the app uses Apple's built-in Local Authentication framework. No biometric data is stored or accessible by the application. Authentication is handled entirely by iOS.
4. AI Insights (Optional)
If you choose to configure an AI insight provider (DeepSeek or OpenAI) in settings:
- Your weekly mood data (scores, tags, dates) is sent to the chosen API using your own API key.
- The generated insight text is returned and stored locally on your device.
- No data is stored by us — the API call is a direct request between your device and the AI provider.
- This feature is entirely optional. Vela works fully without any AI integration.
5. Push Notifications
If you opt in to daily reminders, the app schedules them locally on your device using Apple's local notification system. No remote notifications are used. No device identifiers are shared with any third party.
6. Data Export
You can export all your data to a JSON file at any time from Settings. The file is generated on your device and shared via the iOS system share sheet. We have no access to the exported data.
7. Children's Privacy
Vela does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the app does not collect any data at all, this is not applicable, but we encourage parents to review this policy when allowing children to use the app.
8. Third-Party Services
The following third-party SDKs or services may be involved, but none receive your personal data:
- Apple Local Authentication — system-level biometric auth
- Apple Notification Center — local push notifications
- Apple iCloud — not used
- SQLite (expo-sqlite) — local database engine
9. Changes to This Policy
If we update this Privacy Policy, we will post the changes on this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
